Royal club could get popular princess

Published on August 7th, 2023

Founded in 1775, the Royal Thames Yacht Club is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the world as well as being the oldest royal yacht club. With a clubhouse in London, and a racing program in nearby Queen Mary Reservoir and further away in The Solent, the Club is in need of a Commodore.

Due to his history with convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew stepped down from the role in 2021, with the patronage passed to his brother King Charles. However, now the King’s daughter-in-law, Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, is reportedly hoping to fill his boots as their new Commodore with her background as an enthusiast in sailing.

Having taken the role before becoming King, the Club could now use someone more engaged, but a stumbling block is in how the club cannot approach the palace with the suggestion as royal protocol dictates the decision needs to come from within the Royal Family. – Full report
