Ultimate cure for seasickness

As foiling appendages continue their application in sailing, the technology is also being applied to powerboats. While the motivation is to heighten performance while reducing energy consumption, the smooth ride has proven handy for those prone to seasickness.

This has been demonstrated on the Candela C-8 electric hydrofoil boat, the world’s first electric hydrofoiling boat in production. With two carbon-fibre wings slung under the hull which lift the boat out of the water, drag is slashed by approximately 80 percent compared to traditional boats.

Its unique computer system automatically adjusts the hydrofoils in real time, ensuring the ride remains stable and smooth, even in choppy waters. “It’s a vastly more comfortable ride than ordinary boats.
