Getting smarter with College rankings

Generations of college sailors would once wait for the arrival of Sailing World magazine to learn of their team’s ranking, and while the internet now delivers the assessment in more real time, there is a new platform taking this subjective assessment and applying math to the equation.

In an effort to enhance coverage of college sailing, SailRank.com has been diligently compiling comprehensive college sailing race data since August as part of a research project into predicting sailing results using skill estimation algorithms.

While the concept has been in development for a few years, SailRank.com went public online during the first week of the 2023 College fall season as a means of getting feedback as well as sharing their findings.

The data provides in-depth insights into the performance of college sailing teams across the nation, including rankings, recent achievements, and statistical analyses. Currently, rankings are updated at 7:00pm ET every Wednesday of competition.
