Success does not occur within a vacuum

When people achieve significant success, it is due to how they were pushed by others that raised the bar, and had mentors and examples to show what is possible. Noting recent achievement on Facebook was Peter Holmberg, himself an Olympic medalist and National Sailing Hall of Fame inductee:
“Big shoutout for a couple “kids” from our little yacht club in St. Thomas that just made a big splash on the sailing world stage. Taylor Canfield and his new team just posted a 3rd place podium finish in the big league SailGP event in Abu Dhabi, and Ian Barrows and his crew just won the US Olympic Trials in the 49er class. Really amazing to see that our little island village can help kids turn a love for the sport of sailing into world class performance.”
From the comments:
• Tommaso Chieffi: Little yacht clubs can sometimes be extraordinary.
• Ian Barrows: Thanks for the leading the way Peter!
• Judy Petz: Peter, you have inspired so many young sailors. Kudos to you and the families and community that have created such amazingly talented sailors.
• Bill Canfield: Peter, I believe all our sailors learned a lot from your dedication to winning. We are for sure the little yacht club that could. We all had a lot of inspiration from your dad’s generation.
• Taylor Canfield: Thanks Peter for helping lead the way.
