Karma’s gonna track you down

Published on February 9th, 2024

Taylor Swift has the answer for everything these days. With musical dominance and football supremacy, her song ‘Karma’ reminds us not to screw around with fate:

‘Cause karma is the thunder
Rattling your ground
Karma’s on your scent like a bounty hunter
And karma’s gonna track you down

It was during the 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race which is circling the planet when the Swan 65 Translated 9 was heavily penalized for breaking race rules, and now karma has tracked down the Italian yacht in the South Pacific Ocean.

Twelve teams started the third leg on January 14 for the 6200 nm course from Auckland, New Zealand to Punta del Este, Uruguay, and Translated 9 reported on February 8 that, after having rounded Cape Horn, two cracks were discovered in the stern sections and how the team would seek shelter in the Falkland Island.

The 2023-24 Ocean Globe Race (OGR) is a fully crewed, retro race, in the spirit of the 1973 Whitbread Round the World Race, marking the 50th Anniversary of the original event. Racing without computers, GPS, and high-tech materials, they navigate with sextants and paper charts. Seven of the fleet are former Whitbread competitors.

Starting in Southampton (UK) on September 10, the OGR is a 27,000-mile sprint around the Globe, divided into four legs that passes south of the three great Capes. The fleet is divided in three classes with stop-overs in Cape Town, South Africa; Auckland, New Zealand; and Punta del Este, Uruguay before returning to Southhampton in April 2024.
