Getting smart about offshore racing

Published on February 29th, 2024

Aside from bad accommodations and worse food, offshore racing requires a lot of preparation. This prompted the organization of the inaugural Northeast Ocean Race Symposium in March of 2023. With over 150 people in attendance, the event was a winner with new topics planned for the second edition on March 16, 2024.

The idea of offshore racing may be intimating, but often the details aren’t as daunting if understood. Thus, it is smart business for the Marion Bermuda Race, Marblehead Halifax Race, and the Bermuda 1-2 Race to sponsor the event.

Here are the 2024 topics:

• Bottom Paints for Offshore Racers and Sailors
• Sleep Management for Offshore Sailors
• Personal Flotation and Signaling Devices – State of the Art
• Life Raft and Survival Equipment
• Essentials of Offshore Medicine
• Competent Crews – Building Your Skills
• Marine Pumps – Types, Maintenance & Spares
• Matching Your Sails to Your Racing Plan
• Lithium-Ion Batteries – Options, Conversions and Care
