Sarah Douglas: Countdown to Paris 2024

Sarah Douglass (CAN) is focused on the Paris 2024 Olympics and shares her 30 day countdown to the games.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are getting closer! I am doing my final preparations: crossing the I’s and dotting the T’s. It’s a busy time but I am excited to be heading to my second games in a few weeks time!

I was back in Marseille this month for another coach’s regatta and a longer training block. We had a range of conditions in Marseille with the famous mistral winds, light offshore conditions and the typical summer sea breeze. It was great to have such a range of conditions and to practice on our Olympic race courses.

Our Olympic courses and schedule has changed, so we focused primarily on the courses we hadn’t spent as much time on. Sail Canada’s new meteorologist (Eric Holden) came to Marseille to go out on the water and support the team for a couple of days . Although Vaughn and I only had one day with Eric, it was helpful to get his thoughts on the forecast and conditions we had on one of our Olympic courses.

With so many hours focused on speed over the past few months, our main focus was starting and racing. I finished the training camp exhausted but really happy with the progress made and feeling prepared after spending so much time in Marseille over the last 2 years.

The pinnacle event of the season for Sailing in Canada where our nation’s high-performance sailors of past, present, and future will gather with welcome guests to celebrate outstanding performances and experiences, and offer a grand send-off to our 2024 Olympic Sailing Team will take place on July 12.
