Promoting pathway to lifelong racing

Published on August 5th, 2024

The 2024 Chubb U.S. Youth Triplehanded Championship, also known as the Sears Cup, will be held August 6-8 in San Diego, CA. Hosted by San Diego Yacht Club, the championship in J/22s has crews of four that must have reached their 13th birthday but not their 19th in 2024.

“This event encourages youth sailors to step into keelboats and put together a bigger team representing their clubs and regions,” said John Pearce, US Sailing Youth Competition Manager. “We want to help youth sailors transition from the one and two-person boats that dominate youth sailing, into the bigger boats and larger crews that they will sail for the rest of their lives. It’s a pathway to lifelong racing, and a lot of fun for everyone involved.”

A two day qualifying series will be held for the 17 entrants, with the final day having a Championship Series with Gold and Silver fleets.
