Nothing elevates a sporting clash like having a rival that fans love to hate, or at least to not love.

Cricket’s infamous underarm bowling incident of 1981 has lingered behind New Zealand versus Australia rivalries for more than four decades, and sailing’s America’s Cup has its own (once) notorious names.

Aotearoa’s near euphoric cup debut in Fremantle in 1986-87 got derailed in the challenger final by one of the sport’s greats, the acidic-tongued Dennis Conner.

“You’re a loser, now get off the stage,” said Conner to New Zealand designer Bruce Farr in a media conference after his Stars and Stripes ended the Kiwi’s hopes. – Full report

Following the publication of the AC37 Protocol and AC75 Class Rule on November 17, 2021, the AC75 Class Rule and AC Technical Regulations were finalized on March 17, 2022. The entry period was from December 1, 2021 until July 31, 2022, but late entries for the 37th America’s Cup could be accepted until May 31, 2023. The Defender was to announce the Match Venue on September 17, 2021 but postponed the reveal, finally confirming Barcelona on March 30, 2022. The 37th America’s Cup begins October 12, 2024.
