Shields Class returns home

Published on September 16th, 2024

The 60th Shields US National Championship Regatta returns to the place where the class was first founded by Larchmont Yacht Club member, Cornelius Shields in the early 1960s. The 2024 title on September 19-21 will be the club’s fifth time Larchmont Yacht Club hosting the championship. Twenty-three boats have entered from fleets as far away as Monterey, CA.

Headlining the field are Robin Monk, three-time champion and most recently in 2021, John Burham and Reed Baer, three-time champions as well, and Tim Dawson, another triple champion.

Also in the fleet are Com Crocker and Kurt Weisenfluh, who won it last time the championship regatta was hosted at Larchmont Yacht Club, in 2014. Crocker and Weisenfluh will now be competing against each other.

Winds are forecasted to be in the 13-16 mph range, with gusts up to 25 mph.
