Celebration and Collaboration Tour

Published on November 9th, 2024

Since 2010, philanthropists Hunt and Betsy Lawrence have supported the mission of Oakcliff Sailing to raise the caliber of sailing in the United States. From the North Shore of Long Island, their base serves the range from Olympic to offshore sailors, but this winter they are going on the road. Here’s an update from Executive Director Dawn Riley:

We are dedicating this winter to rebuilding American Sailing. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had some success. Oakcliff is very proud of our sailors who have won The Ocean Race, brought home a Bronze Medal at Paris 2024, and made up the bulk of the Women’s and Youth America’s Cup teams. But there is still room for improvement, and it is going to take all of us, collectively as American sailors, to get the job done.

Our commitment is to visit each area of the country with a two-part event. The first night will be a celebration of the successes we (as in Americans) have earned. The second part is where we roll up our collective sleeves and get to work, exchanging ideas, creating best practices, and moving our country up to the top of the podiums on a more consistent basis.
