Four more years: Four crucial years

When Quanhai Li was campaigning to be World Sailing president, he claimed how through his substantial business contacts around the world, that he was very confident to be in a position to bring valuable sponsorships and support to World Sailing.

After winning the November 2020 election, there has not been any notable mention of Li fulfilling this claim, but he did well enough in his first term to be re-elected for a further four-year term. But what will he ultimately be known for? Magnus Wheatley has a suggestion in this report:


Remember those elections at the beginning of November where the world held its collective breath? No not those ones. You know, the ones that will actually have a direct and lasting impact on the sport you love. Not so much ‘MAGA’ as MYGA – ‘Make Yachting Great Again’ – and President Quanhai Li now needs to set a course that champions specifics, the unloved areas of our sport, if he is truly to leave a lasting legacy. – Full report
