Brisbane 2032 in “hot mess”
Published on January 31st, 2025
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded Brisbane the 2032 Games in July 2021. The 11-year headstart represents the longest period of time organisers have ever had before hosting an Olympic Games but more than three years on concerns are rife as preparations have failed to take flight.
At the time of writing, there are 7 years, 5 months and 30 days until the Olympic Games are scheduled to begin in Brisbane on Friday 23 July 2032. A lengthy amount of time in most regards, but one that is diminishing at an alarming rate for organisers as stumbling block after stumbling block continues to hamper any preliminary progress. From the outside at least, there appear to be problems at every turn with already dilatory developments coming up against an abundance of barriers and backlash. – Full report
Editor’s note: The Brisbane 2032 website reports that Manly Boat Harbour – the largest boat harbour on the east coast of Australia – is earmarked to host the Sailing Program.

* World Sailing voted to keep the Paris 2024 Sailing Program for Los Angeles 2028, but the program is not final until the IOC approves all events, which usually occurs between December 2024 and January 2025. At that time, the IOC will also confirm the quota for sailing and how many medals. No confirmation has yet been announced.
