Eight Bells: John Dinsdale
Published on February 6th, 2025
With great sorrow, we bid farewell to John Stokely Dinsdale, who passed away on February 4, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by his family at home in Hyères, France. John leaves an immeasurable void in the world of catamaran sailing and in the Hobie community, which owes so much to him.
John was a pioneer and a driving force behind the development of Hobie sailing. Through his passion, dedication, and tireless work, he played a key role in making the Hobie Way of Life what it is today. His expertise and vision not only shaped sailing generations with Hobie catamarans but also inspired countless people and sparked their enthusiasm for the sailing sport.
As a longtime member of the Hobie family and International Hobie Class Association Life member, he was always a role model and a true ambassador of the Hobie spirit. He stood for camaraderie, teamwork, and, above all, for the Hobie Way of Life. His commitment to building a strong community, his contributions to countless regattas, and his unwavering dedication to the Hobie family will never be forgotten.
His achievements and legacy will live on within the Hobie community. John enriched countless lives not only as a sailor but also as a friend and mentor. We will remember him as a passionate and kind-hearted person who always had a listening ear for others and who consistently emphasized the joy of sailing together.
John valued the Hobie family very much. Therefore, the family decided that, instead of flowers, he would have appreciated a donation to the European Hobie Class Association (EHCA) to continue the Hobie Way of Life.
