When the 2024 Newport to Bermuda Race incurred dismastings, abandonments, and assorted retirements, organizers initiated a review of the incidents to understand the circumstances and implications.
The Bermuda Race Organizing Committee, in collaboration with the Cruising Club of America and US Sailing, now share their insights into what went right, what went wrong, and how lessons learned can improve safety, preparation, and performance for the 2026 edition.
The review focused on three key areas: structural, rescues, and communications and the review team leads will share facts found and some insight into possible recommendations for boat owners, organizing authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
