LA28: No decision yet on Sailing venue
Published on February 27th, 2025
When the Summer Olympics were last held in Los Angeles, the Sailing venue for the 1984 Games was Long Beach, CA. The consistent westerly winds have since been host to countless championships, and it was assumed the Sailing Program for the LA 2028 Olympics would return to Long Beach.
Think again!
Despite the US Sailing Team creating a base in Long Beach, other locations in Los Angeles are being considered, with San Pedro notably interested. This venue, also known for great summer conditions, is five miles to the north and gaining attention as host for the 2025 Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix on March 15-16.
Ultimately, the venue decision belongs to the LA28 Organizing Committee, with World Sailing only able to contribute if sport requirements are not being met. The final decision is expected by Spring 2025.
In the interim, US Sailing is developing an application and selection process for the recruitment of people to support the international officials. For details, click here.
