New venue: World Sailing Championships

Published on March 27th, 2025

After World Sailing announced in June 2024 that Valencia, Spain would host one-person events for the 2026 World Sailing Championships, the Real Club Náutico Valencia withdrew from the hosting process. Held every four years to decide the World titles for the Olympic classes, the Brazilian city of Fortaleza will now host the one-person racing.

This was to first time in which the World Sailing Championships would be held at separate hosts, with the two-person events planned for Gdynia, Poland in the summer of 2027. Now all events for the World Sailing Championships will be held in 2027.

Fortaleza is the capital of the seaside state of Ceará and a popular sailing destination with a strong record of hosting international events in many World Sailing classes. The venue will stage the Men’s and Women’s Kite, Men’s and Women’s Windsurfing, Men’s and Women’s Dinghy, and Para Inclusive events.

* World Sailing voted to keep the Paris 2024 Sailing Program for Los Angeles 2028, but the program is not final until the IOC approves all events, which usually occurs between December 2024 and January 2025. To date, this decision has not been made.
