Is there Robin without Batman?

When Challenger Artemis Racing replaced skipper Terry Hutchinson with Nathan Outteridge before the 2013 America’s Cup, the new helm brought along his Aussie mate Iain Jensen. They were 2-time 49er World Champions and Olympic gold medalists. They were Batman and Robin.
When Challenger Team New Zealand replaced skipper Dean Barker with Peter Burling for the 2017 America’s Cup, the new helm brought along his Kiwi mate Blair Tuke. They were 4-time 49er World Champions and 2-time Olympic medalists. They were Batman and Robin.
But the Aussie duo split when the Artemis Racing suspended their challenge after the 2017 America’s Cup, with Jensen becoming a ‘British’ wing trimmer for the 2021 and 2024 events, while Outteridge was a ‘Kiwi’ helm in the 2024 America’s Cup. When asked who he’d like to sail with again, Outteridge longed for a reunion with Jensen.
Now that Burling has parted ways with Team New Zealand, will his longtime teammate stay for the 2027 Cup? Tuke, who with Burling won three America’s Cups as Foil Controller, isn’t sure. “Still working through exactly where my future lies,” he said. The duo remains as joint CEOs of the New Zealand Sail GP team, which is not affiliated with America’s Cup defender.

No entries have yet been submitted for the 38th America’s Cup as Defender New Zealand works with the Challenger of Record from Great Britain to organize the event. Anticipated to be held in 2027, the two teams have agreed on some details with the venue to be confirmed by June 2025 after Barcelona declined hosting another edition.
