Putting Park City on the sailing map
Published on October 12th, 2025
Park City lies east of Salt Lake City in Utah, and is best known for resort skiing and the largest independent film festival in the United States. The craggy Wasatch Range isn’t where people would think to go sailing, yet the local Jordanelle Reservoir is changing that.
After hosting the 2025 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship at 6200 feet above sea level, the Park City Sailing Association is feeling pretty good about themselves.
“We were really proud to have people travel from around the country to come sail with us,” said PCSA Executive Director Scott VerMerris. “It’s exciting to show people Park City, too, and that we have this thriving sailing program going on here in the mountains and ski town. People were impressed.
“We got so much experience in running a big event like this. We run regattas every year, but now we know how to do it at an even higher level, so this is what we want to do. … More opportunities to be on the map and show people that this is a thriving place down here are really great for us.”
