From Scuttlebutt HQ in San Diego, the sailing season may slow down in the winter, but it does not stop. That isn’t a bad thing, though it also means there is no year-end celebration that is more common in snowy climate. Yacht racer and broker Don Finkle with RCR Yachts offers this reminder:

“Local clubs and fleets typically host their annual sailing awards dinners in the fall, and they are usually some of the best parties of the year. While you are at it, don’t forget to thank the volunteers who make it possible for us to have our fun on the water. The organizers, race committee, scorers, protest committee, handicappers and so on.

“They don’t usually get the credit they deserve for the time they put it. Maybe you or your crew don’t feel like going out to race that day or night in crappy weather, but they must. They stay up late figuring results. The list goes on. Volunteers are hard to find, especially good ones, so please don’t take them for granted. Everyone appreciates a thank you.”
