Game time at J/70 World Championship
Published on October 27th, 2025
For the first time, the J/70 World Championship is to be held in South America when the 2025 title is held October 28-November 1 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Seventy-one teams from 16 countries are on the entry list, with 12 teams representing the USA. The list also has 2025 Corinthian World Champ Alec Cutler from Bermuda, British 2023 World title team with American Doug Rastello at helm, and China’s two-time Olympic medalist Xu Lijia in the ILCA 6.
Up to 10 races will be held on the shallow and murky Río de la Plata, the widest river in the world, where prevailing winds meet wide-open water and consistent conditions. It’s springtime in the Southern Hemisphere, so the hope is for sunny days and 10-knot breeze along with the occasional frontal system rolling through.
Beyond the sailing, Argentina delivers an unforgettable experience. World-class wine, open-air asados, late-night dinners, and a city that comes alive after dark. Buenos Aires is a place that stays with you, and it hope to be a great backdrop for a world championship.
