XR-41 owners appeal directly to ORC

Published on December 4th, 2025

The three part series, Did XR-41 outwit a measurement rule?, detailed how the ORC handicap system had penalized the XR-41 after they won the 2025 ORC World Championship – a penalty of 10 seconds per nautical mile which went beyond the measurement formula for which the rule is based.

As a follow-up, Danish publication Bådmagasinet shares how eight XR-41 owners have joined together in an appeal to the ORC’s Management Committee, expressing their great concern about the way this matter has been handled – so far – in the ORC.

It should also be clarified that ORC and X-Yacht are now collaborating to create a data-based solution to the whole mess, so that the rule and models from 2026 can calculate all boats’ respite correctly and fairly. The Danish Sailing Union is also following this initiative with great interest.
