The America’s Cup and SailGP has succeed in promoting the obscene cost to compete in sailing. While the sport seeks to be more inclusive, these events show how it’s not. In the Sports Digest report, Top 8 Most Expensive Sports for Professional Athletes, Yacht Racing is #2 behind Formula One and Polo.

“These sports require expensive equipment, regular travel to different countries, professional coaching, and support staff,” said the report. “In many cases, athletes also have to pay for training, fitness, and maintenance on their own. Because of these high expenses, only a few players can continue in these sports.”
