Worrell 1000 returns in 2028

The legendary Worrell 1000 offshore catamaran race has released the Notice of Race and finalized the dates for its highly anticipated return, scheduling the grueling 1,000-mile coastal gauntlet for May 7–20, 2028. Last held in 2024, this will be the 24th edition for the course from Florida to Virginia.

The announcement has triggered a massive wave of enthusiasm across the global sailing community. In response to this overwhelming digital response and a flood of formal “intent to return” emails, organizers have raised the entry cap from 15 to 20 boats. Teams race Formula 18 class boats with 13 stages that start and finish on the beach.

Registration will open in May 2027, giving teams a one-year runway to build their offshore campaigns. “Because our fans, friends, and the Worrell family are the lifeblood of this race, we are throwing the doors wide open to include them in the journey over the next 22 months,” noted Beverley Simmons, Media Director.

Founded in 1974, the Worrell 1000 stands as one of the ultimate tests of human endurance and seamanship in international sailing.
