There is a fantastic scene in the baseball movie Moneyball where Brad Pitt’s character walks into the players’ locker room after another loss. He is disgusted to see some of the players dancing and laughing while a losing streak continues.

Brad Pitt plays the pioneering General Manager of the Oakland A’s, Billy Beane. In response, he takes a bat to the clubhouse stereo to get the players’ attention.

Twice he asks the players “is losing fun?” before a player feebly answers “no.”

“So what are you having fun for?” Beane asks.

After a few seconds of silence, Beane raises his finger to the air and calmly says “that’s what losing sounds like.”

Beane then throws a water dispenser and bats across the room but ignore that part. His point was that losing should be taken seriously and the mindset should be how do we get better, not dancing on tables. – Full report
