US Sailing also announced Athlete Selection Procedures for the following events:
LA28 Sailing Test Event | August 2027 (exact dates TBC) | Belmont Shore & Port of Los Angeles
2027 Pan American Games (OLY Classes) | July 23-August 8, 2027 | Lima, Peru
2027 Pan American Games (Non-OLY Classes) | July 23-August 8, 2027 | Lima, Peru
At the Pan American Games, in order for the U.S. to compete in each class, the U.S. must first qualify as a country in each class at key international class events. Full country qualification information can be found HERE for the 2027 Pan American Games.
As host nation for the 2028 Olympic Games, USA will automatically have one (1) boat qualified in each of the ten (10) sailing events on the condition that the athletes entered meet the eligibility requirements described in Section C of the Sailing Qualification System document.
All four Selection Procedure documents have been prepared and approved by US Sailing’s International Selection Committee (ISC). In addition, the Olympic Games and Pan American Games documents were reviewed and approved by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).
“The release of these selection procedures marks an exciting milestone on the road to LA28 and beyond,” remarked Molly Vandemoer, US Sailing’s Director of Olympic Sailing. “The International Selection Committee put a tremendous amount of thought and care into developing a clear, competitive, and comprehensive system that gives our athletes a strong pathway to representing the United States. We’re incredibly grateful for the work of the ISC and excited to see our athletes continue on this journey toward the 2028 Olympic Games.”
