Returning to birthplace, ten years later

If a one design class wants massive participation, there may be no better venue than Lake Garda. As the largest lake in Italy, located in northern Italy between Milan and Venice, it uniquely blends dramatic alpine mountains in the north with a warm, Mediterranean climate and olive groves in the south.
People love it, and the WASZP Class will likely blow up all attendance numbers when it hosts the 2027 WASZP Games – effectively its World Championship – at the venue. This foiling one design is modeled after the Moth but with a focus on affordability and continuity.
It will be the 10th anniversary of the WASZP Games which began on Lake Garda, in 2017. “We were really born here in Garda, so to come back for this occasion is fantastic,” said WASZP designer Andrew McDougall.
With WASZPs sailed in more than 30 countries, the competitor list of 300+ will be truly global, making it the largest dinghy foiling event ever staged by any class and surpassing the 247 sailors who competed at the 2025 WASZP Games in Weymouth, UK.
