High School Singlehanded Championship

The 2026-27 High School sailing season held the lone national championship in the fall, awarding singlehanded titles in the Open (ILCA 7), Boys (ILCA 6), and Girls (ILCA 6) fleets. Despite fickle conditions, 12 competitors in each fleet completed 11 races on October 31-November 1 in Rye, NY.

Kousei Hatter ’27 (Point Loma HS) dominated the Open fleet, winning by 17 points. The Boy’s division was closer as David Coates ’27 (School Adv. Studies) took the title by 9 points. Kyla Benesch ’27 (Palmer Trinity) needed six points in the Girl’s fleet to finish ahead of twins Maddie and Siena Nichols ’27 (Corona del Mar HS) who completed the podium.
