High School Doublehanded Championship

High School sailing (Interscholastic Sailing Association – ISSA) kicks off the Championship sailing season with the Mallory Championship, in San Diego, CA this coming weekend, May 10-11.

The Mallory Trophy, dedicated in 1930, will determine the best doublehanded fleet racing team among the 7 Districts represented by 20 schools across the USA. The best High School sailors will descend upon San Diego Yacht Club with the racing to be held off the city front with spectacular viewing from the Embarcadero.

Racing in Club Flying Juniors, the venue will be in the vicinity of the B Street Pier with rotations taking place off the B Street Pier.

The following schools have won their District qualifiers to represent their respective Districts at the National Championship:

Northwest (1): Sehome High School (Bellingham, WA)
Pacific Coast (4): Point Loma HS (San Diego, CA); Newport Harbor HS (Newport Beach, CA); Corona del Mar HS (Newport Beach, CA); The Branson School (Ross, CA)
New England (4): The Hotchkiss School (Lakeville, CT); Tabor Academy (Marion, MA); St. Georges School (Middletown, RI); Portsmouth Abbey School (Portsmouth, RI)
Mid Atlantic (4): Norfolk Academy (Norfolk, VA); Annapolis HS (Annapolis, MD); Broadneck High School (Annapolis, MD); Christchurch High School (Christchurch, VA)
South Atlantic (4): Pine View School (Osprey,FL); St. Thomas Aquinas HS (Fort Lauderdale, FL); Sarasota High School (Sarasota, FL); Shorecrest Preparatory School (St. Petersburg, FL)
Midwest (2): Lake Forest HS (Lake Forest, IL); Loyola Academy (Wilmette, IL)
Southeast (1): Clear Falls High School (League City, TX)

The Baker Championship, emblematic of the top Team Race school, will be held in Seabrook, TX, hosted by Lakewood Yacht Club May 24-25.

The Interscholastic Sailing Association is organized to encourage and promote the sport of sailing and sailboat racing among high schools. Organized into 7 Districts, over 430 schools compete annually in events across the country. ISSA holds annual National championships in singlehanded, double handed and team racing to determine the year’s best sailors while each District holds numerous events throughout the season.
