North American Foil Championship in full swing

Published on January 17th, 2016

Los Barriles, Mexico (January 17, 2016) – Situated on the western coastline of the crystal-blue waters of the Bay of Palms, where the sapphire Sea of Cortez meets desert and mountains, Los Barriles hosts one of the most exciting events in Baja Peninsula and the biggest kitesurfing event in Mexico – The Lord of the Wind.

The World-class competition and stunning location this year plays host to the 2016 North American KiteFoil Championships.

The East Cape of Baja is renowned worldwide for its warm waters, consistent winds and great beaches – attracting a host of top riders intending to add their name to the list of champions winning this iconic event.

One of the world’s best riders, and reigning Lord of the Wind Champion, Julien Kerneur of France has returned to defend his title and inevitably will offer up some of the most high octane racing action around.

To add even more fuel to the fire, female front-runner and local hero Cynthia Brown is in the line-up and plans to knock-out a strong performance to retain her Lady of the wind title.

The IKA North American Kite Foil Championship is well underway and all riders put on an amazing performance to establish themselves on the leaderboard ladder. Joey Pasquali is on fire with a perfect score after 15 races, chased by a fleet all hot on his heels. Local Baja boy, Adam Withington, gave it all to keep well within touching distance of the medals and is currently sitting in fifth place. While the top spot seems to be well defended, the remaining podium places are heavily fought for between Julien Kerneur (FRA) in second, Nico Landauer (URU) in third and Zack Marks (USA) in fourth.

In the womens fleet, Astrid Berz is clear ahead of Cynthia Brown (USA) and Bitna Kim (KOR).

Racing continues through to Sunday with the final races and the Lord of the Wind, and North American Champions, being crowned.
