Railey Wins Silver at European Laser Champs

The Laser Senior European Championships & Trophy 2018 was held at La Rochelle, France from May 5 – 12. The events included the Laser Radial Women European Championship & Trophy, the Laser Standard Men European Championship & Trophy, and the Laser Radial Men European Championship & Trophy.

Six days of racing with medium to strong winds, sun and warm weather, with the exception of rain on the last day of racing. Eleven races were completed with two throw-outs for the scoring.

2018 Laser Senior European championships – Laser Standard – Final results

Pavlos Kontides CYP was finally the best one among the Laser Standard fleet and crowned new 2018 Laser Senior European champion with 46 points, just one step ahead of new Laser Senior European vice champion Michael Beckett GBR with 47 points. The Bronze European medal went to Jesper Stalheim SWE with 50 points.

Pavlos was third overall so also won the European Trophy’s Bronze award. Matthew Wearn (AUS) and Sam Meech (NZL) were Gold and Silver with 24 and 35 points respectively.

Sergey Komissarov RUS (58), Tonci Stipanovic CRO (63), Hermann Tomasgaard NOR (66), Philipp Buhl GER (71), Kaarle Tapper FIN (88), Jack Wetherell GBR (89) and Joel Rodriguez ESP (112) completed European’s Top 10.

2018 Laser Senior European championships – Radial Women – Final results

A hat trick for Marit Bouwmeester NED (26 pt), who rocked again and won the Laser Senior European championship for third consecutive time. Top two podium positions for Dutch sailors during whole championship, with Maxime Jonker NED leading the Qualifying series and finally getting the Silver medal with 62 points. Third place and Bronze medal went to Emma Plasschaert BEL with 74 points.

Marit and Maxime also won Gold and Bronze European Trophy’s medals. Paige Railey USA finished 2nd overall and won Silver with 43 points.

Tatiana Drozdovskaya BLR, Maria Erdi HUN, Tuula Tenkanen FIN, Alison Young GBR, Marie Bolou FRA, Daphne Van der Vaart NED and Ecem Guzel TUR completed European’s Top 10.

2018 Laser Senior European championships – Radial Men – Final results

Slovenian sailor Nik Pletikos SLO comfortably headed the Laser Radial Men’s fleet during the event and was crowned 2018 Laser Radial Men’s Senior European champion with 29 points. Silver medal went to Federico Tocchi ITA with 37, one point ahead of multiple times champion Marcin Rudawski POL with 38 points.

Greek sailor Pandelis Kyrpoglou GRE is the new 2018 Radial Men’s Under 21 champion, finishing 5th overall with 96 points. Yvan Beaufils FRA and Alexandre Kowalski POL completed U21 podium, ranked on 6th and 8th overall places respectively.
