New Around the Isle of Wight record

The World Sailing Speed Record Council ratified a new solo world record for the 50nm Around the Isle of Wight course when completed on a 40-footer. The new time of 5 hours 5 minutes and 4 seconds (avg. speed of 9.83 knots) was set by Phil Sharp (GBR) on a Class40 monohull on December 1, 2019. This record speed will also set a benchmark for the 60-foot category. The previous benchmark by Alex Alley (GBR) was 06:29:32 on June 17, 2019.
