Pitching in for the health crisis

Members of the marine industry have redirected their resources to provide services to those agencies and health care facilities combating the COVID-19 pandemic. To recognize these efforts, here’s what we learned:

• Ankor (Portland, OR) usually builds sail covers, dodgers, and other forms of canvas work but they have their attention to mask making. https://www.ankorpdx.com/

• Hartge Yacht Yard (Galesville, MD) donated all the N-95 masks they had to Johns Hopkins. https://www.hartgeyard.com/

• Before we their mandated closure, Irish Boat Shop (Charlevoix, MI) donated all of their N95 masks and gloves into the local healthcare system – about 5,600 gloves and 250 masks. https://www.irishboatshop.com/

• Custom marine canvas manufacturer Kinder Industries (Bristol, RI) and Quantum Sails (Bristol, RI) are building protective shields and masks for hospitals. https://www.kinderindustries.com/, https://www.quantumsails.com/en/lofts/bristol

• America’s Cup challenger Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli built face shields which were delivered to the health professionals of the local hospitals. https://www.lunarossachallenge.com/en/home

• North Sails (South Freeport, ME; Milford, CT) turned their industrial sewing machines to a new task: making masks for caregivers and others who need protection from the disease. https://www.northsails.com/

• Some of the European OneSails lofts have been building personal protective equipment. https://www.onesails.com/

• Switlik (Trenton, New Jersey) has retooled to make face shields for medical professionals rather than life rafts, inflatable life vests, etc. https://www.switlik.com/

• Team One Newport (Newport, RI) reached into their inventory and donated 45 cotton tees to an organization that is making masks. https://www.team1newport.com/

• UK Sailmakers lofts (Norway; Spain; Ukraine, New York, NY; and Sidney, BC) are building isolation gowns with their loft in Ireland getting ready to go into production as well. https://www.uksailmakers.com/

• Ullman Sails lofts (Cape Town, SA; Newport Beach, USA; and Puerto Vallarta, MX) are supporting local and national crisis teams by manufacturing protective masks, shields, and suits. https://ullmansails.com/
