Ciao from Italia: Lightning Class Intergalactics

(June 5, 2013) – The Lightning International Master and European Championships got underway today, providing a prelude to the World Championship that starts next week. The Club Velico Castiglionese in Castiglione del Lago, Italy is hosting sailors from 10 countries for these events.

There are 39 boats in the European Championships and 21 of these qualify for the International Masters Championship. To qualify for the Masters event the skipper must be at least 55 years of age and the total combined crew must add up to 130 by 12/31/13.

Canadian sailor Peter Hall sailing with Meghan Armitage and Mark Osterman are tied with the American team of Ched Proctor, Jamie Ewing and Jay Lurie in the Masters Championship, each with three points. Richard Hallagan (USA) with Hendrick Ten Eyck and John Steiner are in third with nine points.

In the European Championship, Team Proctor and Hall are again tied for first with five points. The Chilean team of Felipe Robles, Andreas Guevara, Pablo Lorca are closely behind in third with six points.

Racing continues on Thursday and concludes on Friday, June 7th. Full results can be found on the Lightning Class website:
