PHOTOS: Albacores and Cherry Blossoms

Published on April 18th, 2014

Spring sailing on the Potomac River (aka “Potomac River Gorge”), with Barney Harris and Dr. Jennifer Evans sailing the 15 foot Albacore which Barney built. As seen on April 13, with a beautiful southerly breeze pushing 20 knots and air temperature in the mid 70s.

In the background of the top photo is the U.S. Capitol dome with Washington, DC’s Cherry Blossoms in full bloom. The plantings of cherry trees originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan.

Their bloom in 2014 was short, with the peak on April 10, and by April 15 most of the trees had dropped all or nearly all of their petals and were starting to be covered with green leaves.
