World Council Ratifies New Speed Record

The World Sailing Speed Record (WSSR) Council announced the establishment of a new World Record for yachts with powered sailing system (WSSR rule 21.c) on the Newport to Bermuda course. Set during the 2016 Newport to Bermuda Race, the 100-foot Comanche owned by Jim Clark and Kristy Hinze Clark set an elapsed time of 1 day 10 hours 42 minutes and 53 seconds (June 17-19) on the 635nm distance (avg speed 18.2 kts).
