Newport Beach, CA (July 21, 2016) – The third day of the 50th Annual Governor’s Cup International Junior Match Racing Championship saw three past champions continue their run through the round robin stage and the home team make a timely charge to join the party.

2011 Gov Cup winner Nevin Snow (USA) was perfect today through seven flights to regain the lead with an overall record of 16-2, passing defending champ Harry Price (AUS) who dropped two races today to slide to second place with 15-3. Two-time victor Sam Gilmour (AUS) also dropped two races to remain in third at 13-5.

With just three remaining flights in the double round robin series, the top four of the 12 teams will advance to the Semi-Finals.

Yesterday, the two teams fighting for the coveted final spot both tumbled today, with William Dargaville (AUS) losing three times to now hold a 10-8. Stumbling further was Lachy Gilmour (AUS), losing five of his races to now sit at 11-7.

The spoiler today for the Aussie teams was Christophe Killian with crew Harrison Vandervort and Jack Martin who are representing event host Balboa Yacht Club. Their record today of 6-1 boosted them up to fourth with 11-7. Now only Dargaville can pass them.

Hosted by Balboa Yacht Club, racing is scheduled for July 19-23 and is being held in the newly launched Gov Cup 22 sail boats designed by Club member S/C Alan Andrews.
