New Speed Record for Isle of Wight

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified a new outright world record for the 50nm course around the Isle of Wight in England. Brian Thompson (GBR) and 8 crew sailed the MOD70 Phaedo 3 on August 18 to a time of 02:04:14 (avg speed: 24.15 kt), improving on the previous record of 02:21:25 set by Michel Desjoyeaux (FRA) and 9 crew on the MOD70 Foncia in August 16, 2012.

UPDATE: The WSSRC has ratified a faster time by Phaedo 3 for the outright Around Isle of Wight record. Brian Thomson and eight crew set a time of 02:02:31 on September 27, averaging 24.49 knots.
