Building the America’s Cup Event Village

Published on October 10th, 2016

A major milestone in one of Bermuda’s most visible commitments as host of the 35th America’s Cup has been the completion of the first phase of construction of “Cross Island”, the land reclamation project that will be the home of the Event Village and a number of team bases in 2017.

In a single year, what was once water has been transformed into the stage upon which the America’s Cup Event Village, home to the 35th America’s Cup, will be situated. The team working on the project have achieved this major milestone on schedule and under budget, a significant achievement for all concerned.

While the infill phase has been completed, the next part of the project involves installing the infrastructure, including electricity, water, sewage and telecommunications before the new nine-acres of land is handed over to the America’s Cup Event Authority, who will create the Event Village for the 35th America’s Cup.

For a time lapse video of the project from October 2015 to September 2016…
