Qualifying for US Team Racing Champs

Published on April 17th, 2018

US Sailing and the U.S. Team Racing Championship committee has instituted a series of qualifying regattas for the 2018 U.S. Team Racing Championship on September 27-30, hosted by The Foundry in Cleveland, Ohio.

These qualifying events will be in addition to the traditional resume application process for entry into the U.S. Team Racing Championship for the Hinman Trophy. The resume application opens on June 8, 2018.

These following events are designated as qualifying regattas for the 2018 U.S. Team Racing Championship:

The Wilson Trophy: May 4-6, 2018 (Top UK team)
ICSA College Team Racing National Championship: May 26-28, 2018
Charles River Team Racing Open: July 14-15, 2018

With a focus on supporting and growing team racing across the United States and abroad, US Sailing plans to expand the scope of qualifying events to include a West Coast event and other regattas from regions around in the country over the next three years. The revised process includes both resume and qualifier applications giving team racers multiple pathways to make the cut.

US Sailing hopes to encourage team continuity and boost event participation while preserving the U.S. Team Racing Championship as one of the most competitive and fun team racing regattas in the world.

The 2018 U.S. Team Racing Championship will be sailed in the Zim 420E.
