Scuttleball: Where Sailors Go To Ball

Published on March 18th, 2019

With the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament field now set, and 68 lucky teams have been included in this annual three week dance toward the finals, you have a simple decision to make. Will you remain ignorant to one of the massive cultural occasions in the USA or will you join the fun?

Now in its 31st year, sailors have been joining the Scuttleball tournament to have some fun. Utilizing the online CBS Sports tools, over 230 “competitors” in 2018 sought to display their athletic acumen. None of them did but a few got lucky. Would you like to get lucky?

In case you’re a fence sitter, your “expert analysis” can earn you prizes (we’re working on the list but it’s good) while all entry fees this year go towards The Warrior Sailing Program which provides maritime education and outreach for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. Yes, sailors can be righteous too.

Now it’s time to act. The first round begins this Thursday March 21 which starts whittling the field down to the final two teams that meet April 8 in Minneapolis, MN. The good news is you can either do a lot of research in filling out your tournament bracket, or you can use the helpful tools provided by CBS Sports.

The only thing you literally need to know is how to go online. And we know you can do that.

HOW TO ENTER:
You need to submit your picks on the CBS Sports site no later than 10:00 am EDT, Thursday, March 21st. Click on the CBS Scuttleball pool link… you do not need to know ANYTHING about basketball to play (and some say it’s even better to just guess anyhow).

HOW TO PAY:
Your entry fee of $20 (per set of picks) must be submitted separately, but no later than Thursday, March 28th. If you miss the deadline you will be removed from the pool. NO EXCEPTIONS.

It’s easiest for all if you pay with Paypal via this link… https://www.paypal.me/SocialNav

Please add on $2 for using PayPal to cover their fees. If you prefer to pay by check please mail it to:

HOW TO WIN:
To inform the #veterans of the pool, winning Scuttleball still gets you all the fame and notoriety of the glory years of old – like our 2018 winner Kris Matthews! Of course, if you pull off the DFL you will get chastised for a full year (poor Smitty), but still walk away and a free lifetime subscription to Scuttlebutt Sailing News.
