Sailing Symposium rescheduled to 2022

Published on June 30th, 2020

Bristol, RI (June 30, 2020) – The National Sailing Programs Symposium (NSPS) has been postponed to January 27-29, 2022 and will be hosted in Savannah, Ga.

The premiere event for sailing education in the United States was originally scheduled for January 28-30, 2021. The decision to postpone the event to 2022 is due to expected COVID-19 restrictions for hosting large events and travel limitations.

NSPS is the only conference of its kind that brings together program directors, instructors, volunteers, parents and industry experts to share and learn best practices with one another about running, maintaining and improving sailing programs. NSPS is an event that provides innovative resources and methods to boating education leaders and programs.

“While we are all disappointed about the postponement to January of 2022, we did not make this decision lightly,” said Stu Gilfillen, US Sailing Education Director. “We consulted with the broad community to fully understand concerns and priorities before determining the best path forward, and we will continue to develop new opportunities to support the sailing community during these challenging times.”

US Sailing is organizing and producing town hall styled live video sessions on The Starboard Portal, a live streaming and video channel launched by US Sailing in March of 2020, featuring sailing industry experts from around the world. The US Sailing Leadership Forum Facebook Group is a resource to exchange ideas and observations with leaders from the sailing industry, including resources on managing COVID-19 restrictions at your local sailing organization as you return to on-the-water activities or are planning to sometime in the near future.

US Sailing is actively developing and packaging education and certification courses for both the student and instructor levels to an online audience through new digital platforms.

US Sailing looks forward to organizing the Symposium and providing more details about the content, speakers, entertainment, and opportunities to attend and participate at NSPS 2022.
