Marblehead Halifax Race 2021 cancelled

Published on April 9th, 2021

The Organizing Committee for the biennial 363nm Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race, which was set to start the 2021 edition on July 11, has canceled this year’s version of the race in its traditional format due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While the pace of vaccinations in the United States is encouraging, Canada has less access to vaccines and has recently been losing the battle against the COVID-19 variants. With the USA-Canada border still closed, it has been determined the conditions will not allow time to prepare for the event, for either the organizers or competitors.

The attention now turns toward alternative options where co-hosts Boston Yacht Club and the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron will hold slightly shorter races to start around the same time, but remain on their respective sides of the border. More information on these will be available in the coming weeks.
