Whitecap: The Canadian Sailing Podcast

Published on July 27th, 2022

Sail Canada in partnership with David Cripton have launched a podcast series focusing on Canadian sailing called Whitecap, with Tom Ramshaw featured in Episode 3.

One of the most successful Canadian dinghy sailors of the last two Olympic cycles, Ramshaw competed in the Men’s One Person Dinghy Heavy (Finn) event, finishing 21st at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and 10th position at Tokyo 2020.

His finish in Tokyo was the best Canadian performance in the Finn class since Chris Cook finished 5th in 2008 in Beijing, and was also the fourth best Canadian result in this event since Terry Neilson won the bronze medal in Los Angeles 1984.

Following Tokyo 2020, he switched to the ILCA 7 class since Finn is not in the Olympic program anymore for Paris 2024. Additionally, as jib trimmer and grinder, he is also an integral part of Canada SailGP Team’s successes in their inaugural season as Canada is currently sitting in 2nd spot in the overall ranking.

In this Whitecap podcast, Ramshaw is talking about different topics, including being part of the Finn’s last Olympics, his new hobby of wing foiling, and what it’s like to go 50 knots on the F50 in SailGP.
