Don’t mess with nature

Messing with a high-rise birds’ nest has triggered a federal investigation at the Port of San Francisco. Not just any birds’ nest, mind you, but the home of a pair of rare raptors that sat atop a 150-foot crane at Pier 80, where America’s Cup defender Oracle Team USA has set up shop. The raptors were ospreys, which were once near extinction. They had never before been seen in San Francisco until the nest appeared on the crane last summer. – SF Chronicle, read on
