Carr now to lead UK Sport

Rod Carr, who led the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) from December 2000 until his retirement in February 2010, has been named Chairman of UK Sport, and will now lead the UK’s high-performance sports agency as it looks to build on the success of London 2012, where Britain’s athletes finished an unprecedented third in the Olympic medals table. Carr was the architect of the RYA’s World Class Performance Programme, which has seen unrivalled medal success for sailing on the world stage, boosted by the introduction of National Lottery funding for elite sport in 1997. – Full report
