AC34: Bits and Pieces

Published on June 23rd, 2013

Revised rules: The four day mediation aimed at reaching agreement on implementing 37 safety recommendations previously issued by Regatta Director Iain Murray ended without complete resolution among the four America’s Cup teams. While the mediation process was to remain confidential, the New Zealand team has stated they are opposed to the recommended design change that allows for adjustable rudder elevators.

Opening Ceremony: An exhibition fleet race among the four teams had been planned for July 5, but the format is not clear, and it may prove to be more parade than competition. Click here for other details on the July 4-5 program.

Schedule: The revised challenger round robin race schedule (July 7-Aug 1) is published here, but it is not yet known if the start times will be revised. The rules regarding wind limits, and whether races can be held earlier to avoid excessive winds, have not been confirmed.

Tickets: Given the recognition that the Artemis Racing team will not be ready in time for most of their challenger round robin races, and the possibility that other teams may not compete on certain days, spectator tickets are no longer being sold. Course location and other ticket information is available here.

Broadcast: The challenger round robin races will be available in the USA and Canada on YouTube, with Tucker Thompson and Andy Green as the commentators for both the live spectator audience and the online viewers. Only races when two boats are competing will be broadcast; races when only one boat is competing (required to receive the point) will not be broadcast.
