Farr 40: Soft Shackles Allowed for Jib Sheets

(June 26, 2013) – We have received a request to allow soft shackles for use on jib sheets. A similar request was received several years ago and denied under Interpretation # 92. However costs have decreased and reliability increased, and as soft shackles are kinder to the paint on cabin tops and masts the Technical Committee agrees it is time to allow the use of soft shackles for jib sheets.

We have issued Interpretation # 159 approving the use of soft shackles on jib sheets. The Interpretation will be embedded in the Class Rules which will be uploaded to the web site. Appendix 6 has not been changed but an * note has been added to it referring to Interpretation # 159.
