After reading Scuttlebutt 3879, I couldn’t agree more about the mess that the 34th America’s Cup has become. I thought about that at and pulled an old photo out of my archives.

I thought this photo might have a little resonation, such as, why don’t we get back to the old school of racing. We have lost our way.

This is the original litho of author Doug Hanks of Oxford MD, who wrote “Muskrat: A Surprise Bid for the America’s Cup“. Hanks wrote this magnificent story about how the people of Oxford mounted a bid for the America’s Cup in Perth.

Doug Hanks is in the center, in the checkered shirt that he always wore. Moving from left is Howie Lapp , my dad Dr. Robert C. Bauman, and Peter Bailey. To Doug’s right is Duck Bradley, and his beautiful bride Xan.

This is a classic!
