Hungarian Wins Byte CII Worlds at Sail Newport

Jonatan Vadnai, a 15 years-old from Hungary, dominated a fleet of 37 youth sailors from 21 nations by winning eight of 13 races and capturing the 2013 Byte CII Championships held in Newport, RI on August 24-28.

Although the scoreboard shows a sweep by the young Hungarian sailor, second place Henry Marshall, the only American sailor in the championship, was in a virtual match race with Vadnai over five days of racing.

Also, the event was a qualifier for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. Nations qualified through the top five male sailors include Hungary, United States, Croatia, Singapore and Canada. From the female top five, Hungary, Netherlands, Bermuda, Singapore and the Dominican Republic earned a spot at the youth games.
